JoJo has spoken up over the substance abuse concerns she had in the past, saying she “required to be buzzed to feel all right”.

In a brand-new interview with Uproxx, the singer reflected on her early career, which saw her become the youngest solo artist to reach number one with the hit “Leave (Go Out)” when she was just 13.

JoJo exposed that after legal problems with her record label avoided her from launching a 3rd album, she relied on drugs and alcohol as a method to feel “pretty” and “worthwhile”.

” I needed to be buzzed to feel alright. I would go to the edge, stand on my tiptoes on the edge and after that come back. I should be dead.”

The vocalist included: “My daddy was an addict and I refused to end up like that. I did not wish to do that. I would have wound up like my father, simply going to sleep one day and not waking up. Because life is hard, not coming from a soft scenario where I can run house to mommy and daddy and go home. Where is that for me?”

In the exact same interview, JoJo spoke about the extreme lengths she went to as a teen to calm her former record label, including eating just 500 calories a day

JoJo’s new album, Excellent to Know, will be launched this spring.
